Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing

Mater Pathology is proud to offer percept™ Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing (NIPT) by Victoria Clinical Genetics Service (VCGS). This new NIPT offering costs $449 and can be collected at any of the Mater Pathology collection centres located in hospitals or the community. Requests for NIPT written on any request form will be accepted by Mater Pathology.

The percept™ NIPT uses cell-free fetal DNA (cfDNA) found in maternal blood to identify the most common chromosomal conditions seen in newborns. This test screens for the following conditions:

  • Pregnant womanDown syndrome (Trisomy 21)
  • Edwards syndrome (Trisomy 18)
  • Patau syndrom (Trisomy 13)
  • Turner syndrome (Monosomy X)
  • Klinefelter syndrome (XXY)
  • Triple X (XXX)

​VCGS perform more than 50% of NIPT testing in the state of Victoria and has a well-established, free genetic counselling service available by telephone for both doctors and patients. VCGS have over 30 years' experience within the field of genetics and their skills and experience in Cytogenetics further assist comprehensive interpretations of NIPT results.

Gender is routinely included in reports and translocation detection can be requested at no additional cost.
