Mater Pathology celebrates International Pathology Day today

November 5, 2014

Following on from last year’s inaugural International Pathology Day (IPD), Mater Pathology has joined with the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia to acknowledge and celebrate pathology, and to appreciate the value of pathology in diagnostic medicine.

Mater Pathology been an integral part of Mater since being established as Queensland’s first hospital laboratory in 1919, and has continued to grow since that time, setting many medical and historical benchmarks along the way.

Mater Pathology now continues in that tradition of delivering exceptional care to hospital inpatients and outpatients, specialists, and to general practitioner networks across the wider South-East region.

Mater’s team of pathologists and staff offers a depth of expertise across all streams of pathology, from routine monitoring through to complex diagnostics and state-of-the-art genetic and genomic profiling.

Our scientific and medical teams are involved in ground-breaking medical research, not only performing testing for leading research projects, but developing new tests and technologies for the future.

Mater Pathology also hosts complete pre-analytical and support services including a full collection service, with staff experienced in all areas of specimen collection for adults, neonates and children including on-road mobile collection teams and 25 collection centres throughout the community.

With our main laboratory conveniently located at Mater and a remote laboratory at Holy Spirit Northside hospital, expansion projects are underway on-site at South Brisbane to support future projects and development.

Mater Pathology wishes to acknowledge the role the Mater community plays in supporting this vital service, and to recognise the dedication and diversity of all members of our own Mater Pathology team.

Mater Pathology is Queensland’s leading not-for-profit pathology provider, reinvesting revenue back into improving health care.
